Funeral services for Harvey J. Conger, 88, of Cornelia, were conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Level Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Conger died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Habersham Home East following an extended illness.

Born Aug. 16, 1926, in Madison County, Ind., he was a son of the late Harvey Conger Sr. and Elizabeth Bolander Conger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Hughes Conger; son, Harvey Charles Conger; sisters, Opal Harlow, Ann Harlow, Ruth Andis; and brothers, Richard E. Conger and Ken Milner.

Mr. Conger served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired from Chicopee Manufacturing after 16 years of service.

Survivors include his special caregivers and friends, Deborah and Bobby Gabrels of Baldwin; sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Willie True of Noblesville, Ind.; special nieces, Suzie Sperzel of Jeffersonville, Ind., Beth Hendricks of Cicero, Ind.; and 15 other nieces, nephews; and brother-in-law, Oris Hughes of Bryson City, N.C.
