When traveling through the mountains, sometimes it’s best to stop and enjoy outdoor activities in this beautiful natural setting.

One such activity is golf, and Rabun County has no shortage of golf options. These include Kingwood Country Club and Resort and Rabun County Golf Club, both just outside of Clayton, Sky Valley Country Club in Sky Valley and Waterfall Club on Lake Burton.

Called “one of the most beautiful parks in the North Georgia Mountains,” Meeks Park, located one mile west of Blairsville, is home to several festivals throughout the summer and fall.

Tobie Chandler, tourism director of the Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce, said the reason for the popularity of Meeks Park is because of its natural beauty.

Grab a lawn chair and prepare to be enchanted in Hiawassee, with this year’s lineup of musicians to perform at the weekly Enchanted Music on the Square.
In its 18th year, Enchanted Music on the Square provides an evening of free musical entertainment each Saturday between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. Food and beverages will be sold on site.
Mardi White, widow of Eugene Jakel, said Enchanted Music on the Square was the idea of her husband and JoAnne Leone, who was tourism director in 2000.

With the 38,000-acre Lake Lanier, Hall County offers plenty of outdoor and water activities. One place to enjoy those activities is Georgia’s newest state park, and the only one located on Lake Lanier: Don Carter State Park.
In its fifth year, the 1,316-acre Don Carter State Park offers a plethora of opportunities for water lovers. The property includes a sand swimming beach with bath house and boat ramp and eight miles of paddle trails, with seasonal kayak, paddleboard and aquacycle rentals. Boaters can also water ski.

NASCAR got its start through running moonshine, and Dawsonville is known as the “Moonshine Capital of the World.” So it’s only natural tributes to the two should be housed in the same place: the Dawsonville Municipal Complex.

Whether you’re an experienced paddler, or you’re just looking for an outdoor family adventure, exploring the Etowah River through Dawson County is a great way to spend a day, a weekend or more.

White County has the designation of being “Georgia's Outdoor Adventure Destination,” featuring fun on the Chattahoochee River and a rich assortment of nature trails.

But you can also experience outdoor fun without touching the ground at multiple zipline and adventure attractions in the community: Screaming Eagle Ziplines and Adventures at Unicoi, Nacoochee Adventures and Cool River Adventures.

The sweet sound of music can be heard throughout the halls of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarkesville on a Friday afternoon.

Following the melody will lead to a room where the Yonah Pickers are practicing. The group is known for its performances featuring the mountain dulcimer, a stringed instrument with long ties to the Appalachian Mountains, said Lynn McCollum, the leader of the Yonah Pickers.
