Funeral services for Ronald William Ellington, 74, of Cornelia, were held Monday, Aug. 19, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Grady Walden and the Rev. Dennis Wade officiating. Interment followed in the Garrison Family Section of Old Mud Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Ellington passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019.

Born Feb. 27, 1945, in Clarkesville, he was a son of the late Olaf and Bernell Eller Ellington.  

Mr. Ellington was a United States Air Force veteran and was a member and deacon of Clarkesville Baptist Church, where he enjoyed playing the hand bells. He played football at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee and later went on to coach athletics for 33 years, 28 of those years being with the Habersham County Schools System. Accordingly, he was inducted into the Habersham Ring of Honor.  In his spare time, he enjoyed football, fishing, gardening, his dogs and spending the summers on mission trips.  Mr. Ellington was also a loving husband, father and grandfather.  

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Garrison Ellington of Cornelia; daughters and sons-in-law, Mandy and Mark Wade of Cornelia, and Lydia and Jeremy Joffray of Athens; grandchildren, Molly, Mia and Maribeth Wade and Elizabeth Joffray; brother, Raymond Pelfrey of Pendleton, South Carolina; sisters, Elaine Charles of Carrollton, and Juanita Harvey of Graniteville, South Carolina; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Flowers were accepted or donations may be made to Clarkesville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 667, Clarkesville, Ga. 30523.
