As you're shopping in Cornelia, you may notice a trend: select businesses have chosen to welcome pets into their stores.
This allows the pets to meet new people, smell new smells, and possibly score some water or a treat. A big advantage to pet owners is, as youíre running errands with your fur baby, you won't need to leave him or her in a hot car.
"Part of the Main Street program is to share ideas with other communities," said Main Street Manager Jessie Owensby. "I have visited several other communities throughout the state that are pet-friendly. One of the ways people can decipher which places are cool with dogs is to put a decal on the door."
Owensby said the city of Cornelia and its business owners are attempting to become "much more pet-friendly."
"We'd love nothing more than to see dogs all over the place, which is why we have the dog park," she said. "So we implemented this program to let people know that we welcome their furry family members in downtown!"
Business owners can decide what type of animal is allowed inside, but the ones with a "dog-friendly" decal on the door specifically welcome canines.
