1 dead, 1 in custody following July 4 shooting
One man is dead and another in custody following a Fourth of July shooting, the sheriff’s office confirms.
Capt. Floyd Canup, public information officer with the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), confirmed for The Northeast Georgian the report of a “possible shooting” received at 10:52 p.m. July 4 at 3848 Antioch Church Road, near the Habersham County-Stephens County line.
“We have a deceased male victim here,” he told The Northeast Georgian, and “suspect in custody.”
Canup said the HCSO hasn’t released names of either the victim or shooter at this time.
“They do know each other,” he said, “but this was not a domestic violence situation.”
Canup said an argument erupted between the two males, resulting in “at least one shot fired.”
Although the HCSO is in the early stages of its investigation, Canup said, it appears the victim is from Toccoa.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will not be called in to investigate, Canup said.
