Alice Waldroup Hilton

A Celebration of Life Service for Alice Waldroup Hilton, 95, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Harvest Christian Church in Clarkesville with the Rev. Tim Hilton, the Rev. Raymond Fortner and the Rev. Michael Wilkes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hilton passed away Feb. 4, 2019.

Born Feb. 19, 1923, in Hayesville, North Carolina, Mrs. Hilton was the second of 10 children born to Herbert Wilkerson Waldroup and Bernice Henson Waldroup of Franklin.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hilton was preceded in death by her husband, James Rex Hilton; sons, Michael and Ralph Hilton; and grandson, Kevin Hilton, all of Sautee. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Gladis Waldroup Wilson of Franklin; brother, Harold Waldroup of Hayesville, North Carolina; sister, Glenna Waldroup Monkus of Nichols, formerly of Oakwood; sister, Meryl Waldroup Monkus of Blue Ridge; brothers, Coy and Roy Waldroup of Franklin, Brance Waldroup of Hayesville and Horace Waldroup of Franklin.

Mrs. Hilton had been living with her daughter and son-in-law in Lawrenceville for the last five years due to failing health. Prior to that, she resided at her home of more than 70 years in Sautee, which was where she truly longed to be.

Mrs. Hilton was married to James Rex Hilton Jan. 18, 1944, in Canton, Ohio. After living in Ohio for several years, they relocated back to Georgia upon the birth of their first child. Mrs. Hilton was a member of Community Baptist Church, Sautee, and later became a member of Harvest Christian Church, Clarkesville. She was always active in her community and especially enjoyed all the activities she participated in with her church family.  Mrs. Hilton will be remembered for her kindness, as well as her outgoing and loving personality. She has blessed all her family and friends with her grace, perspective on life, love, wisdom and most especially her legacy of faith and dependence on God. She will be remembered by all her family for the fierce love she gave to them all.

Mrs. Hilton is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Pharris and son-in-law Mitchell Pharris of Sautee, and Ruth Hilton Connor and son-in-law Bill Connor of Lawrenceville; grandson, James Chad Hilton and daughter-in-law Amy Hilton of Cleveland; sister, Virginia Waldroup Cooper of Winder; sisters-in-law, Lelia Waldroup and Shirlene Waldroup, both of Hayesville; as well as a multitude of grandkids, great-grandkids, nephews and nieces.  

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today, Feb. 6, at the funeral home.
