Edna Jennie Gowder Elrod
Funeral services for Edna Jennie Gowder Elrod, 90, of Clarkesville, are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, March 22, at Clarkesville Baptist Church with the Rev. Grady Walden and Dr. Jerome Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery in Lula.
Mrs. Elrod went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 18, 2019.
Born Jan. 22, 1929, in Homer, Mrs. Elrod was a daughter of the late William Edward Gowder and India Parsons Gowder. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Walter Elrod, four sisters, two brothers and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Elrod lived most of her life in Habersham County. She was a homemaker, member of Clarkesville Baptist Church, board member of Victory Home, active in her Bridge Club and very involved in her community.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Seth W. and Shoney Elrod of Anderson, South Carolina; daughter and son-in-law, Athena and Keith Whitlow of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; grandchildren, Courtney and Matt Timen of Bluffton, South Carolina, Anna Katherine Elrod of Wilmington, North Carolina, Seth Adam and Shanna Elrod of Canton, Ohio, Jennie Olivia Elrod of Wilmington; step-grandsons, Thomas Chadwick Sugg of Cane Ridge, Tennessee, Corey Braden and Amy Sugg of Louisville, Kentucky; step-great granddaughters, Anna Caroline Sugg and Ruby Kate Sugg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or Clarkesville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 667, Clarkesville, GA 30523.
