Lady Raiders fall to Lanier
Despite a solid performance on the mound from Kylie Gray, the Habersham Central High School (HCHS) Lady Raiders suffered another defeat on the diamond, falling to Lanier High School (LHS) 3-2 Thursday in Mt. Airy.
Gray went the distance for the Lady Raiders, pitching seven innings of work. She allowed three runs on six hits, walked one batter and collected two strikeouts.
After neither team scored a run in the first three innings, the Lady Longhorns pushed one run across in the top of the fourth inning.
The Lady Raiders answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 2-1 lead, but the Lady Longhorns answered with a game-tying run in the fifth inning.
LHS scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning and Laura Ann Acker got the Lady Raiders out with no trouble in the bottom of the inning to earn the win.
Paige Cook led all batters with three hits. The Lady Raiders had eight hits as a team.
Defensively, both the Lady Raiders and Lady Longhorns committed two errors each.
After defeating Gainesville High School 8-0 Aug. 30, the Lady Raiders have now lost their last two games. They played Apalachee High School Tuesday. As of The Northeast Georgian’s press deadline, the results of the game were unknown. Results will be published in the Weekend edition of The Northeast Georgian.
The Lady Raiders will host Winder-Barrow High School Thursday – first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
