A dump truck lost two wheels Monday morning and damaged Cowboy Bob’s donut shop in Clarkesville.
A Habersham County dump truck driven by Kennth Wade, 65, of Cornelia was traveling south on New Liberty Road in the southbound lane. The truck’s rear passenger wheels and tires came off and traveled south on the west shoulder of New Liberty Road. The tire traveled through the intersection of New Liberty Road and Hollywood Highway and the tire struck the building window of Cowboy Bob’s Restaurant at 1084 Hollywood Highway. The restaurant will be closed for at least a couple of days, owner Paula Kubinchak said.
“It was such a shock,” Kubinchak said. “I was sitting with a customer and it sounded like a bomb went off. My employee was screaming and we were in shock. Luckily, the county was on the scene immediately and took control of the situation. They were wonderful.”
The Habersham County Dump Truck traveled approximately 527 feet on New Liberty Road with no rear passenger tires before coming to a final rest on the west shoulder.
