Locals revel in Georgia’s dominant romp to 2nd title
Winning a second consecutive national championship isn’t supposed to look this easy.
But Dawg fans are enjoying it just the same after Georgia brought home another title with a historic 65-7 walloping of TCU on Monday night in Los Angeles.
Plenty of folks from Habersham County made the trip out west to see if the Dawgs could bring another one home.
Dr. Josh Garrett enjoyed the trip with family and friends, calling the ride “incredible.” Habersham Central athletic director Geep Cunningham made the trip as well.
The decks at SoFi Stadium were stacked with red shirts as the cross country gulf between the Peach State and Hollywood was not enough to lessen the support for the Dawgs.
Clarkesville attorney Tricia Hise went with friends to the Georgia Bulldog Club Tailgate party, where she ran into country singer Corey Smith, who also performed at the party. While tailgating was controversially banned from the actual stadium parking lots, there was plenty of fun being had at the offsite parties.
“It was a surreal and amazing experience and certainly not what we anticipated,” Hise said of the monster blowout. “But we knew when Stetson Bennett got his fade, Stequavious would make an appearance. He and the team had so much to prove with all the haters, and clearly the Mailman delivered. Stetson and the team had a near perfect game.”
Jeremy Perry, owner of United Roofing in Clarkesville, took his whole crew to the game. “It was a unique experience,” Perry said. “To witness the Mailman put his stamp on history going back to back made it that much sweeter.”
Thousands more watched from the comfort of their own living rooms.
“After I graduated from UGA in the 90s during the low period of the Goff era, I would travel out of state often for work,” Demorest Councilman Shawn Allen said. “People would ask me if the G on my cap stood for Green Bay. Winning brings recognition. I am proud for the students and athletes now that they will get that deserved recognition for this fine institution.”
“Incredible performance tonight,” said Tavarres King, Habersham Central Ring of Honor member and Bulldog alum. “It’s such a testament to the work ethic Kirby Smart instills in them. It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog!”
