This Christmas season, many pets were not with a loving family. They were within our community with workers and volunteers trying to find their place.
According to Claudia Jessup, President of the Habersham Humane Society, this recent Christmas season the humane society saw someone similar to Jolly Ole Saint Nick. Instead of presents, he’s working to help with donations to the shelter.
Liam Dyer, a 7-year-old student at The Torch Christian Academy, is all about giving help and hope in a hard time. On Dec. 19, Jessup met Dyer and his mother, Ineka, in Clarkesville. When Jessup arrived, Dyer gave Habersham Humane Society money he had raised by handcrafting and selling Christmas ornaments. A total of $375 was given from Dyer to the humane society because of his compassion for animals.
“He was humble and polite and a true Christmas gift to the needy animals in our foster care,” said Jessup. “Kids like Liam have a servant’s heart; his Mom says he has a heart for philanthropy. Regardless of what you call it, he has a passion and desire to give back to those less fortunate than himself.”
When Ukraine began to enter conflict earlier this year, Dyer also raised $1,800 for relief.
“So, in this hectic season of buying, baking, wrapping, driving and, hopefully, praising – let’s all step back, take a breath, and ‘be a Liam,” said Jessup.
