Funeral services for Allen Miles Abernathy, 80, of Clarkesville, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Union Baptist Church in Sautee-Nacoochee, with the Rev. Danny O'Kelly and the Rev. Alvin Burns officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Abernathy went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, following an extended illness.
Born July 2, 1941, in Cleveland, he was the son of the late Harry Miles and Ethel York Abernathy.
Allen was a 1961 graduate of White County High School. He worked in the weaving department with Clarkesville Mill and retired from Scovill Fasteners with 34 combined years of dedicated service. In his spare time, Allen enjoyed cattle farming and spending precious time with his family. He was ordained as a deacon at Union Baptist Church in 1957, at the age of 16. Allen was currently serving as chairman of the deacons with over 64 years of service.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Gertrude Pruitt Abernathy; daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and David W. Savage of Clarkesville, and Beth and Charles Giaquinta of Demorest; grandchildren, Chris and Cari Savage of Clarkesville, and Tiffany and Rhett Phongsavanh of Clarkesville; great-grandchildren, Hattie Jo Savage, Margot Savage, Liam Phongsavanh, and Scarlett-Ann Phongsavanh, all of Clarkesville; brothers-in-law, L.C. Pruitt and Ricky Pruitt both of Cleveland; sisters-in-law, Janie Pruitt, Dot Pierce, and Yvonne Westmoreland, all of Gainesville; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
