Funeral services for David M. Hobson, 79, of Cornelia, were held Thursday, March 18, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with the Rev. Robert Nix and the Rev. Austin Kelley officiating. Interment followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Grant Reeves Honor Guard and masonic graveside rites will be provided by the Cornelia Masonic Lodge No. 92 and Clarkesville Masonic Lodge No. 325.

  Mr. Hobson passed away Monday, March 15, 2021.

    Born Jan. 4, 1942, he was the son of the late William and Jewell Marie Caudell Hobson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Myer Leon Hobson; and sisters, Esta Belle Keller, Juanita Clouatre, Daisy Maldonado Hobson, and Greta Adams.

  Mr. Hobson was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Mr. Hobson was a member of both Cornelia No. 92 and Clarkesville No. 325 Masonic Lodge and had served as P.M. of the Cornelia Lodge No. 92. He was also a member of the Traveling Men's Masonic Motorcycle Club, Band of Brothers Chapter 21. He dedicated 43 years of charity to the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Hobson worked for Chicopee, Clarkesville Mills, Otasco in Cornelia, Tom Fouts Tire Distributor, Volume Tire, Sutton Tire, and Georgia Mountain Tire where he made numerous friends over the years. David received a heart transplant in 2007 at Emory Hospital, extending his life by nearly 14 years. David also made a special friend while in Emory Hospital, her name was Robin, after conversation with David, she made the decision to proceed with her own heart transplant surgery after her initial decision to not have the transplant. He was known as "Papa David" by his grandchildren. David lived life to the fullest, always joking, and never met a stranger.   

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Catherine Nix Hobson of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Dan Roberts of Baldwin; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Lorie Hobson of Mt. Airy; brother, James Monroe "Rosie" Hobson; grandchildren, Brooks and Becca Roberts, Ridge and Rainlan Hobson, Jennifer and Devin Banfield, Susan and Levi Morgan, Matthew Ward, Adam Ward and Audra Cloer; and great-grandchildren, Branson, Audrey, and Sadie.   

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made in memory of David Hobson to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
