A graveside service honoring the life of Gary Michael Lyle, 77, of Mt. Airy, was held Saturday, May 28, at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery, 1095 Ayersville Road, Toccoa.
Mr. Lyle passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.
Born Dec. 11, 1944, in Stephens County, he was a son of the late Jenny Walker and the late Doyle Lyle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Corbett Baker.
Gary was a Vietnam War combat veteran serving in the United States Navy. He served three tours in Vietnam with River Division 514 on river patrol boats then was stationed in the Philippines and in Key West. Gary did not speak much about his time in the Navy and wanted no recognition saying only that it was his duty. After returning home, he worked in law enforcement and as a private investigator. Gary was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Valerie Baker Lyle; children and spouses, David Lyle (Michelle) and Josh Allen (Kelly); grandchildren, Blaine Lyle, India Piper Allen, Cannon Lyle, and Niko Allen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy Walker (Kathy) and David Lyle (Lori); and sister, Barbara Ann Hardin.
The family requests that donations be made in Gary's memory to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Haiti Fund, 1095 Ayersville Road, Toccoa, GA 30577.
