Funeral services for Jimmy Dover, 94, of Mount Airy, were held Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Webb and the Rev. David Harbin officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Grant Reeves Honor Guard.

  Mr. Dover passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, following several years of declining health.

  Born Nov. 21, 1926, in Habersham County, he was a son of the late Maxwell and Lizzie Dooley Dover. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Louise Cathey Dover; brothers, Arthur Dover, Wilburn Dover, Clarence Dover, and Earl Dover; sisters, Ruth Dover Hill, Essie Dover Harris, and Mary Ann Dover Whitten. Mr. Dover was the last of his immediate family. 

Mr. Dover was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was part of the Men's Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Mr. Dover was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a highly respected retired building contractor, known for his quality craftsmanship and custom-built homes. Jimmy was a very loved and dedicated family man. 

Survivors include his loving daughter, Gail Dover Meador of Nashville, Tennessee; sons, Wayne Dover of Cornelia, and Barry Dover of Mt. Airy; granddaughter and her spouse, Jana Dover Byrd and Shannon of Perry; and great-grandchildren, Ansleigh Byrd and Connor Byrd. 

Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made in Mr. Dover's memory to Antioch Baptist Church, 2175 Antioch Church Road, Mount Airy, GA 30563. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Whitfield Funeral Homes & Crematory, North Chapel, Demorest.
