Funeral services for Joseph Oliver "Joe" Bailey, 81, formerly of Gainesville, will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, at Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Avenue, Cumming, with the Rev. Shelia Preacher, officiating. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. followed by a service at 2 p.m. in the Chapel.
Mr. Bailey passed away Oct. 1, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.
Born July 16, 1940, he was the son of the late Isam Joe Bailey and Ila Hughes Bailey.
He graduated from Gainesville High School, and then went on to Georgia Tech and Southern Polytechnical Institute studying Industrial and Mechanical Engineering. Joe was in Industrial Sales and Distribution for several companies including Johnson & Johnson, Snow Filtration, and O.I. Schott. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and off roading. He was a fan of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Atlanta Braves. Joe was an Eagle Scout and was a devoted member of the Sons of the Confederacy as well as the Habersham and Forsyth County Historical Societies.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue Pruitt Bailey; his daughters, Susan Bailey Davis (Jason), and Paige Bailey Turkia (Mark Watson); and his grandchildren, Joey Turkia and Abby Turkia.
