Funeral services for Lenora Smith, 90, of Hazel Creek Community, Mt. Airy, were held Tuesday, May 25, at Hillside Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Billy Burrell and the Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Interment followed in Hazel Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

  Ms. Smith went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 22, 2021, at her residence following an extended illness.

  Born Sept. 5, 1930, in Mt. Airy, she was the daughter of the late Harold James and Martha Bertha Schmidt Smith. In addition to her parents, Lenora was preceded in death by her sisters, Eugenie Burrell, Catherine Cantrell, and Louise Holcomb; nephews, David Cantrell and Keith Holcomb.

  Lenora was retired from Ethicon (Johnson & Johnson Company) with over 45 years of dedicated service. She was a lifelong member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, worked with the ACTEENS, and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Although she never had children, Lenora lovingly helped raise many nieces and nephews as her own. In her spare time, she enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Survivors include her sister, Helen Smith of Mt. Airy; brother and sister-in-law, Boyd and Floye Smith of Toccoa; brother-in-law, the Rev. Billy Burrell of Mt. Airy; nieces and nephews, Neysa Joy Burrell, Denise Cantrell, Kevin and Julie Holcomb, Kim and Aundrea Cantrell, Chad and Doreen Smith, and Brent and Crystal Holcomb; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.
