Memorial services for Lt Colonel Phillip A. Lynd,72, of Clarkesville, will be held Sunday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church with Mr. Horace Huggins officiating. Burial will follow in the Providence cemetery with full military honors.  

Mr. Lynd passed away Dec. 20, 2019, at his residence following a long period of liver disease. 

Born May 24, 1947, in Washington, D.C., Mr. Lynd was the son of the late Wayne C. and Jean Colson Lynd. 

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp March 12, 1969, having served in the Vietnam conflict as a Weapons Systems Operator (WSO) in the F4 Phantom Fighter Jet, flying 200 missions in Vietnam, released from active duty June 1, 1974.  Mr. Lynd then finished his last two years of college at Embry-Riddle receiving his bachelors degree. He then served in the United States Air Force Reserves for 24 years as WSO flying the F4 Fighter Jet until Dec 30, 1989 and Jan. 1, 1990 was assigned to Headquarters 10th Air Force, Bergstrom AFB, Austin, Texas as Operations Plans Officer until he retired as Lt Col Phillip A. Lynd May 24, 2002.   

Survivors include his loving wife of 35 years, Karon M. Lynd of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Tamara Lynd of Carlsbad, New Mexico; daughter and son-in-law, Ashleigh and Don Allen Neumeyer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sister, Joan Butson and her daughter, Christina Ingles of Merritt Island, Florida; and brother, Craig and his wife, Carolyn Scott Lynd of Ocoee, Florida; grandchildren, Cody Shaffer, Rylee Lynd, Grace Bunch and Chase Flores.  

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, Dec.28, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m.
