A private family Celebration of Life for Ronald "Ron" Kendrick Coffey, 73, of Mount Airy, was held Sunday, June 5.

Mr. Coffey passed away Friday, June 3, 2022.

Born Aug. 19, 1948, in Hampton, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Charles Coffey and the late Ann Thurman Coffey Ott. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his daughter, Yvonne Coffey and by his brother, David Coffey.

Ron was a retired veteran of the United States Army and the United States Air Force after 20 years of dedicated service. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. Ron spent ten years in law enforcement with the last three years as a federal agent at Fort Bliss Army Base in El Paso, Texas. After moving to Mount Airy, he was a former corrections officer with Habersham County Sheriff's Department. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, and grandfather. Ron was an accomplished author with two novels and one book of poetry, a local playwrite, and enjoyed singing karaoke. He was a member of Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post # 7720.

Survivors include his loving wife of 24 years, Betty Baker Coffey of Mount Airy; sons, Lance Coffey of El Paso, Texas and Sean (Pam) Coffey of San Antonio, Texas; stepfather, John Ott of Turnerville; brothers, Charles "Chuck" Coffey of Lisle, Illinois; sisters, DeAnne Ott House of Clayton and Christina Ott Lespinasse of Hoschton; grandchildren, Adrian Coffey, Michael Coffey, Andrea Coffey, and Dominic Coffey; great-grandchild, Mateo; other relatives, friends, and doggies, Gretel, Cloe, Mitzie, and Annie.
