   A celebration of life for Tommie Joe Rice, 73, of Lula, will be held at a later date in Anderson Flat Cemetery, St. Joe, Arkansas.

  Mr. Rice died Sept. 14, 2021.

  Born Dec. 18, 1947, in Hampton, Arkansas (Marion Co.) he was the sone of the late Garland Francis and Alta Etta (Marshall) Rice. In addition to his parents, Tommie was preceded in death by his brothers, Ira (Ari), Ronnie, Frank, and Everett; and sister Etta Marie.

    Tommie is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sherlene (Tinsley) Rice, and four daughters, Jodi Gretchen (Jeremy)Person, Kileen, Texas, Beth Ann Wiedenheft (Brad Larson) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Jessica (Gustavo) Sacasa, Lula, and Megan (David) Bennett of Cornelia; his grandchildren, Cody Person, Kortney Person-Thibodeaux, Tyler Person, Emma Rice, Caleb Bennett, Oliver Sacasa, and Juniper Larson; great-grandchild, Paisley Person; and former son-in-law, Kris Wiedenheft; siblings include brothers, Ernest, Paul, and Rex; and sisters Evelyn, Judy, Nancy, and Patsy; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

    Tommie loved catfish with hushpuppies, figuring out how to build almost anything from wood, lakes, a good place to sit outside, good action films, not so good action films, fishing, biscuits and gravy, lazy days spent with his family, and Arkansas Razorback football.

    In honor of Tommie's memory, the family requests that you do as he would, take a child fishing, teach a teen to drive, spend an afternoon on the porch with your family, or simply share a few moments of friendly conversation with someone you hadn't met before.
