For the first time in decades, a Tallulah Falls tennis team has claimed a Region Championship. Both the Lady Indians and Indians defeated Rabun County on Wednesday to earn the Region 8-A DI titles.
For the Indians, it marked the first region title since 1977, spanning 46 years. The Lady Indians won their last title in 2000. The girls won 3-0, while the boys took a 3-1 victory.
“It was a great day for Tallulah Falls tennis,” Indians coach Anthony Cox said. “Our student athletes have a lot to be proud of. They have worked extremely hard over the course of the past year to achieve this goal and significant accomplishment.”
The girls cruised across the board, but the singles lines wrapped up wins first to clinch the match.
The boys 1- and 2-singles earned wins in dominant fashion, and 1-doubles fell behind in both the first and second sets but kept their composure to storm back and claim the title.
Both teams remain without a loss at now 14-0, and will host at least the first two rounds of the state tournament should they win the first round.
