The Habersham County United Way hosted its 2023 Spring Clay Shoot on April 29. It was a record breaking fundraiser for the semiannual event, as 30 teams registered to shoot and more than $29,000 was raised. All funds from the event will directly benefit the 21 agencies that the United Way supports locally in Habersham County.
It was a beautiful Saturday in Mt. Airy, as shooters started arriving at 7 a.m. for breakfast and registration. Following the shoot, participants enjoyed a BBQ lunch, a long bird competition, and announcement of winners and waited to see if they won raffle prizes donated by a multitude of generous sponsors.
Winners of the shoot included: Class A, top team Street Toys and second place Springer Mountain Farms. Winners for the Class B included top team City Plumbing & Electric and second place was awarded to Cornelia Utilities team.
Springer Mountain Farms was the presenting sponsor and has supported the event as presenting sponsor since the inaugural year in 2016. Additional sponsors included: Gold Sponsor, City Plumbing and Electric; Silver Sponsors, Capital City Home Loans, Weidner Law Office, Kinetic by Windstream, Cleveland Wood Preserve, Poly Enterprises, Harbin Lumber and Alan Densmore Construction; Bronze Sponsors, South State Bank and D&H Marketing.
Candice Holcomb, CEO of the Habersham County United Way said, “Because of the generosity of the volunteers we were able to pull off yet another successful shoot. These folks take time out of their Saturday and spend it giving back to their community in a fun and rewarding way. We always get the best feedback from our volunteers. They all want to be sure they are included in the next shoot and that speaks volumes to how much fun this day really is.”
