Habersham County’s marquee basketball talent has returned from hoopin’ in the Windy City. HCHS standout Kyia Barrett joined her travel team, the Southeast All-Stars, for the Nike Tournament of Champions in Chicago last week.

Barrett’s squad, the SAS Red Team, went 5-2 during the week and found themselves in the “Champions League” final four. The squad dropped a heartbreaker in the semifinal matchup, falling by a point in overtime. Still, says Barrett, the event was one to remember.

“I think the week went really well. We played some really talented teams and enjoyed the experience.”

Having already announced her commitment to Anderson University (South Carolina), Barrett was able to focus fully on playing loose and helping the team in any way possible. “It’s nice to play without that stress on my shoulders,” she said.
