Funeral services for Lee Roy Poole, 78, of Mount Airy, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel with the Rev. Trent Smith and the Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Poole went home to be with the Lord Monday, Sept. 7, 2020.

Born Nov. 24, 1941, in Banks County, he was the son of late Jewell and Jannie Parson Poole. 

Mr. Poole was a member of the Hazel Creek Baptist Church. Lee Roy had a passion for wood working over the years, he made furniture, cabinets and many more pieces; he did this for not only a career, but a hobby as well to gift his work to others. Lee Roy loved all kinds of gardening. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was known to his grandchildren as "Grandpa."

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Winnie Gulley Poole of Mt. Airy; daughter, Janet Poole McGuire of Sugar Grove, North Carolina; son, Randall Poole of Hoschton; sisters, Annette Cape and Charlotte Parks, both of Gillsville; brother, Ralph Poole of Gillsville; grandchildren, Wil McGuire, Nicholas McGuire, Alex McGuire; and one great-grandson, Oliver McGuire.

The family will receive friends from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, .at the funeral home prior to the service.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Hazel Creek Baptist Church.
