About Us

The Northeast Georgian is one of Habersham County's oldest and most respected business establishments. The Georgian began publishing in 1892 and in 1990 merged with Tri-County Advertiser.

The newspaper is dedicated to serving the people of Habersham County. It is the only publication both in print and online that is solely dedicated to chronicling the lives of Habersham County and its residents.

With a total circulation exceeding 10,000, the newspaper publishes two print editions each week. One issue is published on Wednesdays, and the second is delivered on Fridays.

In addition, the newspaper publishes this online edition which is updated on the same days that its printed product is delivered. When news events dictate, this Web site is updated with breaking news before it is published in the newspaper.

Located at 2440 Old Athens Highway in Cornelia this office houses the newspaper's editorial, advertising, composing and administrative staff, and the building also serves as the home of Georgia Mountain Press which prints The Northeast Georgian as well as community newspapers in surrounding counties. Alan NeSmith serves as the regional publisher of The Northeast Georgian.

The newspaper has more than 45 full- and part-time employees. Our goal is outlined in the mission statement that runs in each issue of our newspaper. It reads:

The Northeast Georgian is published with pride for the people of Habersham and adjoining counties by Community Newspapers Inc. of Athens, Ga. We believe that strong newspapers build strong communities "Newspapers get things done!" Our primary goal is to publish distinguished and profitable community-oriented newspapers. This mission will be accomplished through the teamwork of professionals dedicated to truth, integrity, loyalty, quality and hard work.
