Update: After the Baldwin City Council meeting Thursday night, Public Works Director Scott Barnhart announced another pipe burst on Willingham Avenue.
The City of Baldwin issued a boil water advisory on Thursday for the whole city after a pipe burst on the 6200 block of Willingham Avenue during the night. According to Mayor Stephanie Almagno, half of the system is out due to the leak.
“The advisory is being issued out of an abundance of caution - there is the potential a health hazard may exist due to microbial contamination in these areas without positive pressure,” reads the advisory on the city’s website.
Customers experiencing water outages or low water pressure are advised to use only boiled tap water or bottled water for use and consumption. When boiling water, customers should bring water to a rolling boil for at least two minutes before use or consumption.
The advisory will be in effect until the City of Baldwin water system has done the appropriate testing to be confident that there is no longer a public health concern. Customers will be notified immediately when the advisory is lifted.
Once the advisory is lifted, customers are encouraged to flush all faucets for a minimum of two minutes before water use.
