You are never too old – or too young – to get involved in your local government.
Habersham County recognized 4-year-old Chandler Franklin on Monday night after the young man noticed the flashing light on top of the commercial radio tower at Old Mill Road and Crane Mill Road was not working. Chandler told his parents, who notified Lynn Smith at E-911 and County Manager Alicia Vaughn.
Smith contacted Habersham County Radio System Administrator Tom Priddy, who located the tower owner. The light on the tower is crucial to alerting aircraft to the tower’s position.
“Engineers from the commercial radio station located an issue with the monitoring system controller board for the light beacon and alerted the Federal Aviation Administration,” Chairman Ty Akins said. “A crew was scheduled to troubleshoot the issue on the tower.”
Chandler’s parents Clayton and Allyson Franklin were there to help their son receive his recognition from the commissioners.
“Chandler is a visual thinker and very detail-oriented,” Clayton Franklin said Tuesday. “When he learns about a new place or idea, he notices even small changes when he revisits or we discuss it again. Allyson and I are thankful to have such a bright, unique son.”
