Clarkesville First United Methodist Church (CFUMC) is looking forward to hosting its annual Cross Walk on Good Friday at 10 a.m.
The Cross Walk is for Christians to remember the time Jesus Christ spent carrying the cross that held his crucifixion before being placed in a tomb.
CFUMC is looking forward to the event, with men from Victory Home in Tallulah Falls scheduled to carry the cross. The group will stop at stations along the walk. Beginning at the CFUMC fellowship hall, the group will go to the gazebo in Clarkesville, followed by the Old Clarkesville Cemetery then finally return to the fellowship hall.
Each station will have a reading of scripture from The Bible, followed by a prayer and singing.
“We are trying to recreate the steps of Christ on His journey to carry the cross,” CFUMC Pastor Keith Cox said. “We are trying to remind not just church members but the community of the love and sacrifice that Jesus gave for everybody. Each station is very powerful, and we end with the cemetery because they placed Him in a tomb. In the journey itself, from one station to another, we are kind of following in his steps from one place to the other. It’s a great reminder for people who are driving by, not only seeing our church, and this is interdenominational. This is one thing we as believers can agree on – the love and sacrifice of Christ.”
Cox also mentioned that this walk could be something personal for individuals.
“It’s just a way to remember and reflect on Christ’s sacrifice for all believers,” Cox said. “It allows us to realize that we all have our own personal crosses to carry. As we go along our journeys, there are personal things we are dealing with – challenges and failures of our life. Because of His death and resurrection, we can find healing as we go through.”
A free soup and cornbread lunch is to follow the walk for those who participate.
The church is also offering a shuttle for those who cannot walk from one station to the next.
