The National Day of Prayer is celebrated across the country as an invitation of all faiths to pray for the nation. Created by Congress, it was signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1952.
The law states, “The President shall issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups and as individuals.”
Habersham County recognized the day Thursday by praying across the cities of Tallulah Falls, Clarkesville, Demorest, Cornelia, Baldwin, Alto and Mt. Airy, as well as encouraging prayer at home.
