The Northeast Georgian has a full news team with three new reporters who are dedicated to telling the story of Habersham County.
John Dills started as a news reporter in October 2022, and he has quickly immersed himself in the community with many major stories.
Dills is a native of Rabun Gap and a graduate of Rabun County High School and Piedmont University. He got started in journalism through the video program in high school and is hoping to earn a master’s degree in the future.
Dills has four snakes, three leopard geckos and five cats to share his time with. He enjoys nature, supporting the environment, exploring new technology and video games.
“I refer to myself as a lifelong learner,” Dills said. “I wanted to become a journalist in the hope of helping people. I get satisfaction from helping people, specifically large groups, by knowing I’m informing them on something they previously did not know. That’s the same reason I want to continue my education. Through that learning, I plan to make a bigger impact – providing knowledge to those who can benefit from it.”
Dills covers Baldwin city government and general assignment beats.
Emma Marti has been with The Northeast Georgian since the beginning of 2023. Marti is from Flowery Branch, and she graduated from Greater Atlanta Christian School and Piedmont University.
She originally majored in psychology, but found a love for journalism and changed her major to mass communications, honing her craft and becoming the scourge of the Oxford comma.
Marti enjoys reading, writing, podcasts, trips to the lake and other outdoor adventures. She has two dogs, two cats and a hamster.
“My career goal is to change the world through my writing. I went into this field because of my passion for writing, but I’m staying in it because of my passion for telling stories and educating people,” Marti said. “If I can leave the world a little bit better than when I found it, I’ll do whatever it takes. Whether that be through writing a feature on an individual, group or organization, I’ll tell their story. If it’s covering an event or information I previously knew nothing about, I’ll educate myself so I can further educate others. I want to be the best I can be, not only for myself, but because I believe if every person is the best version of themselves, then the world will be a much better place.”
Marti covers Clarkesville and Cornelia city government and education, as well as general assignment beats.
Lang Storey started as The Northeast Georgian’s sportswriter in March. He is originally from Augusta and he graduated from University of Georgia with a degree in international affairs. He participated in the UGA Sports Media Program as an undergrad.
Storey spent a year working in politics in Washington before returning to Georgia and pouring himself into sports. He is a fierce supporter of all things UGA and Atlanta Braves.
In addition to following all things sports, Storey enjoys playing golf, running, writing, reading and eating.
Editor Matthew Osborne has been with The Northeast Georgian since November 2019 and has 17 years with Community Newspapers Inc. Osborne covers Habersham County, public safety, Demorest city government and a little bit of everything else.
