North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members recently earned top honors during the 2023 FBLA Collegiate National Leadership Conference held in Atlanta. The NGTC FBLA Chapter received four national awards as well as the National Hollis and Kitty Guy Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit.
Samantha Byers of Blairsville, Autumn Strickland of Hartwell, Alexis Whittemore of Blairsville and Kortney Wright of Martin claimed first place in Parliamentary Procedures. Byers and Emily Linz of Cornelia placed fourth in the Community Service Project competition, while Byers earned sixth place in the State of the Chapter presentations.
The NGTC FBLA Chapter received fourth place in the National Outstanding Chapter Awards. Byers and Whittemore were recognized as outgoing FBLA state officers. Byers also received the Who’s Who in FBLA Award and was recognized as the incoming Georgia FBLA Collegiate executive vice president.
Mona Williams was recognized as Georgia FBLA Collegiate Adviser of the Year, and Kevin Panter of Kevin Panter Insurance in Blue Ridge, Ga., was recognized as Georgia FBLA Collegiate Businessperson of the Year.
NGTC FBLA advisers are Mona Williams, business technology instructor; Angela Banks, business technology instructor; and Emily Sullens, career services specialist.
“With their remarkable showing at the FBLA National Conference, the students from North Georgia Technical College have earned well-deserved recognition as rising stars in the business arena,” said NGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs Mindy Glander. “As they embark on their professional journeys, they are poised to make significant contributions to the industry of business, armed with the skills, knowledge, and experience gained through their involvement in FBLA. I am so pleased with NGTC’s advisors and students. They certainly make us proud.”
“We are very proud of all our students who competed nationally against some of the brightest future business leaders from around the country,” said Mona Williams, NGTC FBLA adviser and business technology instructor. “On an individual level, we have exceptional students who will take on various leadership roles in the business world. Our FBLA members worked very well as a team, which is reflected by our numerous chapter and team awards.”
FBLA is the largest business career and technical student organization in the world, with more than 230,000 members.
