Habersham County United Way held a Community Wide BBQ Chicken Plate Sale on June 23. This was the first event of this kind held directly by the United Way and it was a tremendous success. More than 500 tickets were sold with 100 percent of the proceeds, more than $5,000, directly benefiting the Habersham County United Way.
This fundraiser was only possible because of several very generous community sponsors: Fieldale Farms/Springer Mountain Farms, North Main Credit Union, HEMC, Bigg Daddy’s, Crossroads Café and Queen Bee Bakers. Each of these sponsors generously donated food and supplies allowing HABUW to benefit 100 percent from all ticket sales.
A number of volunteers including HABUW board members, agency sponsors and community volunteers came together to execute this fundraiser.
The Habersham County United Way would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who came and volunteered their time to make this fundraiser the success that it was.
Campaign Chair Jennifer Burton said, “This event was only possible due to the businesses, volunteers and citizens in our community that value the work of the United Way and understand how critical it is that local agencies are funded in Habersham County. I greatly appreciate each business and individual who supported this fundraiser.”
HABUW would also like to thank Hugh Smith of Toccoa who came out to grill the chicken and the team of gentlemen from HEMC (Stephen Thomas, Landon Price and Cody Thomas) who assisted Smith in preparing the chicken.
HABUW plans to have a similar fundraiser next summer and looks forward to serving the community again. Fundraisers like this one, and the upcoming Fall Sporting Clays Shoot and Charity Golf Tournament are essential to the function of our local United Way. Our community is growing and so are the needs of the 22 agencies funded by HABUW.
The Fall Sporting Clays Shoot will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30 in Clarkesville and the Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Orchard Golf and Country Club.
Anyone interested in information about either of these events or how you can volunteer/donate to the HABUW please contact Jennifer Burton at jenniferburton@fieldale.com.
