The Town of Tiger is officially a “Dry City” after Tiger Town Council members passed the final reading of “an ordinance to repeal the beer and wine ordinance of the Town of Tiger; to establish an ordinance prohibiting the sale and purchase of alcoholic beverages within the town limits of the Town of Tiger; and for other purposes” at Monday’s Town Council meeting.
Council members unanimously approved the passing of the ordinance, with new Council Member Danny Wilson voting at his first meeting since being appointed.
Tiger Mayor Mike Carnes said council members voted for Wilson as a new council member at a public meeting June 21, 2022.
Carnes said in an interview with The Clayton Tribune that Wilson is filling the spot of Ronald Moore, who resigned from his post due to health reasons.
Moore was not present at the June 13 regular meeting of the Tiger Town Council.
Carnes clarified that no businesses currently in the Town of Tiger city limits sell beer and wine, and the ordinance is being put into place as a precaution to prevent such activity in the future.
Council Member Karen Lovell said she has gotten telephone calls from community members since the first reading of the ordinance, saying they were thrilled about the ordinance and hoped to see it passed.
