Baldwin will host its fall festival from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, including food, live music and plenty of activities for all ages.
That will also now include the ability to have a temporary entertainment district.
The city council finalized an amendment to its alcohol ordinance Monday night that permits carrying of alcoholic beverages in designated areas during specially approved events.
Unlike the entertainment districts in Cornelia, Clarkesville and Demorest that are available daily in a fixed area, the Baldwin ordinance allows only for special events approved by the council on a case-by-case basis.
“They have retail shops that serve alcohol, where we do not,” Councilwoman Alice Venter said.
The alcohol also can only come from a vendor licensed by the city and approved by resolution for that particular time and place. In this case, it is 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, with Los Cerritos of Baldwin as the vendor.
“There will be a beer garden as part of the festivities that will be easier to manage with the ordinance in place,” Venter said.
The festival will take place at 110 Airport Road in Baldwin.
