Train documentary showing Saturday night: Cornelia: A Train Town, a video documentary produced by Peter Madruga, will be shown Saturday, Sept. 17 from 6-8 p.m. and again Saturday, Oct. 15 from 2-4 p.m. at The Common Ground, 643 Irvin Street, Cornelia. Painted Fern Art Festival in Rabun: The Annual Painted Fern Art Festival that is presented by the North Georgia Arts Guild will be Saturday, Sept. 17, and Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Rabun County Civic Center, 201 W. Savannah St, Clayton, Ga. Forty-plus artists and artisans are scheduled to exhibit a wide variety of art and fine crafts: Painting, photography, pottery, glass, wood, metal and more.
Spivey-Nicholson reunion planning meeting: The Spivey-Nicholson reunion will not be held this year. Volunteers are asked to come and help plan the reunion for spring of 2023 at a meeting on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m., at Habersham Baptist Church Social Hall. Many thanks go to the family members and guests that have made the reunion a great success every year.
Homecoming is Sunday: New Liberty Baptist Church, located on New Liberty Road in Clarkesville, will be having Homecoming, Sunday, Sept. 18. Service starts at 10 a.m. with dinner following. Kyle Gibson is the pastor. Singing will be provided by the Loggins Family.
Church fundraiser BBQ set: Ebenezer Baptist Church, located at 487 Dicks Hill Parkway in Mount Airy, will be selling rib plates and chicken plates weather permitting on Saturday, Sept. 24, from noon until 3:30 p.m. Rib plates are $15/each and chicken plates are $10/each. Rib plates and chicken plates will each include cole slaw, baked beans, bread, and tea. Cupcakes will also be on sale for $1/each and cake for $2/slice. Cooks will be Deacon Victor Scott and Brother Marion Banks.
Sale at thrift store: The Sharing & Caring Thrift Store, located at 195 Stovall Street in Cornelia, will hold a half-price sale on all clothes and miscellaneous items Saturday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will also be free childrens’ gifts while supplies last.
Homecoming and festival set: There will be a Homecoming and Fall Festival at Cornelia Christian Church, located at 1244 441 Bypass in Cornelia, Sunday, Sept. 25. Worship is at 11 a.m. Stay for dinner at the pavilion, games, activities, boiled peanuts, cotton candy, and more.
VFW inside yard sale: The Grant-Reeves VFW Post 7720 Auxiliary will have an Inside Yard Sale located at 174 Cornelia Crossing Shopping Center off US 441 on Saturday, Oct. 8. All proceeds will go to “Wreaths Across America.” The primary goal is to raise enough for every grave in Grant-Reeves Memorial Park will have a wreath on it. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

College prep classes offered: North Georgia Technical College offers GED and college prep classes on its Clarkesville campus and at the Goodwill Center in Cornelia. The hours are Monday-Wednesday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Monday-Wednesday evenings from 3:30-7 p.m. at Clarkesville Campus and Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Goodwill Center. Anglican study sessions: Join St. Thomas Anglican Church every Sunday as they celebrate the Holy Eucharist according to the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. The church is a small, traditional Anglican Church, located in rural Alto, 10 minutes south of Cornelia, conveniently off of 23/365 Gainesville.
There also will be Bible Study every Wednesday at 1636 Mud Creek Road, Alto, as well as an Alpha coutse on Fridays at 6 p.m., that explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly environment.

Limited Cornelia UMC food pantry shopping: The free food pantry at Cornelia United Methodist Church will be open the first three Thursdays each month. Time is 1-2:30 p.m. One shopper per household per month.
Soup Kitchen seeks donations: The Clarkesville Soup Kitchen, a non-profit organization at 166 Ritchie Street, provides to-go meals six days a week to any individuals in need. The mission is to have no one in the community go hungry.
The kitchen has served an average of 65 meals per day in July, and donations of non-perishable food items may be left at the soup kitchen Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Mailed donations can go to P.O. Box 712, Clarkesville GA 30523.
South Habersham planning reunion: A committee is looking for members of South Habersham High School’s Class of 1966. They are planning a fall reunion, and we need you to be there.
