Mushroom workshop set: Creating A Shiitake Mushroom Log will be the topic of a hands-on, outdoor event on Friday, Oct. 28 sponsored by the Headwaters Master Gardener volunteer group. Join fellow mushroom fanatics as you learn about Shiitake Mushroom Spores, inoculate your own personal mushroom log, receive instructions for care, and take your log home to enjoy the results. The event will be at Victory Home Greenhouse in Clarkesville (near Tallulah Falls). Fall Festival at Church of God: The annual Fall Festival at The Clarkesville Church of God will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. There will be carnival games for all ages, bouncy house, hayride, trunk or treat and more. Make plans now to be at this community-wide event. Special needs trunk or treat: There will be a trunk or treat for special needs families from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Hillside Baptist Church on Level Grove Road in Cornelia. Organizers are seeking volunteers to decorate their car and hand out candy. The event is free to any family with special needs. GriefShare meets every Wednesday: Clarkesville First UMC offers a community Grief Share program every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. If you have lost a loved one and need support this is a wonderful opportunity for you to attend a support group to help you in time of loss. College prep classes offered: North Georgia Technical College offers GED and college prep classes on its Clarkesville campus and at the Goodwill Center in Cornelia. The hours are Monday-Wednesday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Monday-Wednesday evenings from 3:30-7 p.m. at Clarkesville Campus and Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Goodwill Center.

Limited Cornelia UMC food pantry shopping: The free food pantry at Cornelia United Methodist Church will be open the first three Thursdays each month. Time is 1-2:30 p.m. One shopper per household per month.
Soup Kitchen seeks donations: The Clarkesville Soup Kitchen, a non-profit organization at 166 Ritchie Street, provides to-go meals six days a week to any individuals in need. The mission is to have no one in the community go hungry.
Donations of non-perishable food items may be left at the soup kitchen Monday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Mailed donations can go to P.O. Box 712, Clarkesville GA 30523.
