Jazz, Jaws and John Philip Sousa – there’s something for everyone to enjoy at “America, the Beautiful: A Celebration of American Music,” at 6 p.m., Sunday, June 26, at First Baptist Church of Cornelia.
“Since my arrival at FBC in 2018, I’ve dreamed of offering to our community a gift of a summer concert highlighting the music of America, both from our sacred heritage and popular culture. I am excited to announce that the concert will finally happen. Our choir (with some friends) along with a professional orchestra, will present America, the Beautiful: A Celebration of American Music,” said Randy LeBlanc, FBC Minister of Worship and Music.
The sacred portion of the concert begins with an energetic musical fantasy of early American hymn tunes by the orchestra and ends with Mack Wilberg’s stunning arrangement of Amazing Grace sung by the choir and audience accompanied by the orchestra and bagpipes.
The second half of the concert will be a delightful time of sampling music from America’s leading popular music composers and arrangers. Aaron Copland is represented with a selection from Appalachian Spring, and then it will be time to swing into the sounds of Duke Ellington. You’ll want to hold your loved one tight when you hear the theme from “Jaws” in the tribute to John Williams. And of course there has to be a John Phillip Sousa march, so get ready to tap your toe to “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” Closing out the concert will be a stirring arrangement of “America, the Beautiful” presented by choir and orchestra.
Take part in this event for a time of inspiration, fun, and glory to God.
The event is free and the church is located at 325 Oak Street.
