Edwin Wood
Edwin Wood will play Charlie Brown in the upcoming Habersham Community Theater production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” Playing the lead role in this production is the culmination of a long journey for this Rabun-Gap Nacoochee sophomore. It was more than two years ago that Wood received the exciting news that he had been cast to play the iconic character, Charlie Brown, but because of the pandemic, Wood and the rest of the cast had to wait until this season to finally bring this heartwarming musical to the HCT stage.
While the production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” has been on hold, Edwin Wood has not been idle in his pursuit of the musical arts. Since being cast in this show, Wood has learned to play the piano and the guitar while forging a real passion for composing music.
In addition, Wood has refined his talents while performing for Rabun-Gap Nacoochee’s acapella group, Gap 8, and several Cirque theatrical productions at his school.
“The music in this show is deceptively challenging, but I am so much more prepared for this role today than when I was originally cast. And it is awesome to see how the cast has matured and developed since we first started rehearsing in 2020,” Wood said.
When asked what he enjoys most about this show, Wood said, “I love how this production teaches us that happiness comes from the simple things in life and that friendship is something that should be valued above all. The show will make you laugh, and most often at yourself, as we can all relate to Charlie Brown. But hopefully, the show will cause you to consider what really brings meaning to our lives.”
Wood is joined by a talented group of young HCT performers including LeslieAnn Khoury as Sally, Zoe Simmons as Lucy, Madelyn Williams as Snoopy, Randy Warren as Schroeder, Sam Warren as Linus, and a lively ensemble.
Best known as a talented and graceful dancer, Williams is showcasing all her talents as an actress and vocalist in her role as Snoopy.
“What I enjoy about this character is the sarcasm and the fun that Snoopy brings to the stage. Snoopy lives in his own world, usually atop his doghouse, spending his time dreaming of epic scenarios such as the fight against the Red Baron and an extravagant tap number during his mealtime,” Williams said.
Indeed, one of the many highlights of this production is Williams acting, singing, and dancing as she brings to life the adorable Snoopy in the musical score, Suppertime.
Production dates are June 2-5 and June 9-12.
