The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting in Baldwin that left one man dead and another facing potential charges.
Officers with the Baldwin Police Department responded to the call late Sunday night at a mobile home park off West Airport Road, where first responders treated the victim, Eduardo Mora, 22, of Baldwin, for a gunshot wound at the scene before he was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Jose Luis Morales, 17, of Baldwin, remained at the scene and was later identified as the suspected shooter, according to GBI spokesperson Natalie Ammons.
According to a report from Ammons, Mora had gone over Morales’ home and aimed a gun at him – at which point Morales then shot Mora, who succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Baldwin Police Department initially worked the case through the early morning hours Sunday before turning the investigation over to the GBI.
A potential motive of the suspected shooter hasn’t been determined, as the investigation is still ongoing.
“This is an active investigation and charges in this case are anticipated,” a release by Ammons said, adding that anyone with information about this case can submit tips by calling 1-800-597-TIPS(8477), online at https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online or by downloading the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
No arrest had been made before press time Tuesday.
Once the investigation is concluded, the case will be given to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution if charges are brought against Morales.
