The Town of Mt. Airy recently hired their new police chief Jamie Bowden.
Bowden is following on the footsteps of Tim Jarrell who recently left the department to join the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office as an investigator.
“We had a lot of good applicants, but we think Jamie is the best guy for us,” Mt. Airy Mayor Ray McAllister said. “We think he will do a good job for us and give us some longevity at the position.”
While Jarrell was both chief and town manager, Bowden will serve only as police chief.
Starting his law enforcement career in Mt. Airy fresh out of the police academy, Bowden has a passion for the safety of his hometown. Since starting at Mt. Airy early on, he has wanted to be able to serve as Police Chief of the town since 2008.
Previously working in the cities of Clarkesville and Demorest, he feels prepared for his role in serving his community, and is wanting to be a resource for the town.
Bowden’s goals are simple – increase patrolling in residential areas and increase community involvement.
“I just want everyone to know I’m very appreciative of the opportunity the town has entrusted in me, and I want everyone to know that when they’re outside, Mt. Airy (Police) are on the job,” Bowden said. “If they need anything, they can call us and Mt. Airy (Police) will be there to keep them safe.”
Bowden is set to move into his new position at the start of the new year.
