National Day of Prayer
The National Day of Prayer will be observed throughout Habersham County by its citizens on May 5, 2022. A special observance for Cornelia will occur on Thursday May 5 at 1 p.m. at the Big Red Apple. The VFW Post 7720 will present the colors at 1 p.m. Music will be led by Councilman Don Bagwell and the VFW Chorus will lead the singing of patriotic music.
Those participating in the event are Commander Bill Miles, former Governor Nathan Deal, Mayor John Borrow, Sheriff Joey Terrell, Senator John Foster, Rev. Nathan DeShoto, Bishop Ernest Burns, and Rev. Ben Wilcox.
The 2022 theme is “Exalt the Lord Who has established us” (Colossians 2:6-7).
This day of observance is held on the first Thursday in May as designated by the U.S. Congress when people are asked to “turn to God in prayer and meditation.” The President is required by law to sign a proclamation encouraging people to pray on this day. This law was enacted in 1952 although days of prayer and fasting were established as early as 1775 by the Continental Congress.
