Veterans events coming

Grant-Reeves VFW Post 7720 has several events coming for the community.

Friday-Saturday, May 26-27, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Buddy Poppy Drive at Cornelia Walmart;

Monday, May 29, Memorial Day service 10 a.m. at the Grant-Reeves Memorial Park Cornelia and 7 p.m. Candlelight vigil at the KIA monument Clarkesville square;

Saturday, June 10, Female Veteran appreciation luncheon, 11 a.m. at the Post headquarters.

Spring revival

Double Springs Baptist Church, located at 586 Double Springs Road in Demorest, will be having Spring Revival beginning Sunday, May 21, at 6 p.m., then  Monday Friday, May 22-26 services will begin at 7 p.m. nightly. Guest preacher will be Robert Nix. Pastor Wesley Purcell and the congregation would like to invite everyone to attend.

Golf tourney for HUB

The 2nd annual Habersham United Believers (HUB) golf tournament will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, at The Orchard. Entry deadline is May 23. Entry forms and details can be found online at hubofhabersham.com/Golf.

Vacation Bible Schools

“Proclamation Safari Park” will be held at New Hope Baptist Church at 5040 Pea Ridge Rd. in Cornelia from Sunday to Friday, May 28 to June 2, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Meal will be served nightly. Commencement on Friday. Come and join us as we learn more about “Jesus is my Rescuer.”

 

Macedonia Baptist is hosting Vacation Bible School from Tuesday, May 30, to Friday, June 2, beginning at 5:30 p.m. through 8 p.m. Theme this year is Twist & Turns, showing how we follow Jesus and he loves us. Cornelia Congregational Holiness Church will host Vacation Bible School at 368 Galloway Street, Cornelia, June 4-7, 6-8 p.m.

Limited Cornelia UMC food pantry shopping

The free food pantry at Cornelia United Methodist Church will be open the first three Thursdays each month. Time is 1-2:30 p.m. One shopper per household per month.

Parkinson’s support group

The Northeast Georgia Parkinson’s Support Group is designed to help Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers. The group meets at 6 p.m. the last Monday of each month at “The Station,” 1725 Highway 441 Bypass in Cornelia at Level Grove Baptist. For details, call David McLendon at 706-455-6485.

Gourd vibrations

If you love arts and crafts, check out the Gourdacious Patch which meets the first Friday of each month at the Habersham Senior Center starting at 10 a.m. The Gourdacious Patch is a group of gourd crafters and artists who have been meeting for years where we take the versatile gourd and learn all kinds of techniques using inks, dyes, paints and colored pencils while combining with weaving, carving and wood burning to create fun pieces and beautiful works of art. CASA seeks volunteers

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are needed. Northeast Georgia is seeking volunteers to be advocates for children in foster care in their eight-county service area. Advocates help to inform the court of the child’s well-being and make recommendations for the best interest of the child. Children with an advocate do better in school, receive more appropriate services and find permanent homes more readily.  CASAs come from all walks of life and are a valuable protection for the most at risk youth in our community. College prep classes offered

North Georgia Technical College offers GED and college prep classes on its Clarkesville campus and at the Goodwill Center in Cornelia. The hours are Monday-Wednesday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Monday-Wednesday evenings from 3:30-7 p.m. at Clarkesville Campus and Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Goodwill Center. Bible study on Tuesday nights
