The City of Cornelia is seeking applicants for a stakeholder’s committee. The committee will be made up of residents, business owners, industry leaders, and those representing diverse backgrounds and ethnicities. The stakeholder committee will help advise the city and give public input for the development of the 2023 Comprehensive Plan update.
The Comprehensive Plan is a framework of vision for the city and a list of action steps to achieve objectives over the next five years.
These objectives can include housing, economic development, downtown development, beautification, tourism, capital projects, public improvement projects, transportation, parks, trails, and land use to name a few.
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs requires each municipality to have an updated Comprehensive Plan on file at all times. The City of Cornelia has an additional designation as a Plan First Community. The designation is given to cities that not only create a plan, but also execute it.
The ideal applicant should be:
• A resident, property owner, business owner, or industry leader in the city limits of Cornelia;
• Have a vested interest in the future of Cornelia;
• Have experience in economic development, business, marketing, planning, outdoor recreation, historic preservation, or closely related field.
The time commitment is a monthly meeting with other stakeholders, attendance at possible open houses, and attendance at public hearings regarding the comprehensive plan update. The position is an unpaid volunteer effort that will dissolve upon the adoption of the 2023 Comprehensive Plan update.
