Ty Akins unofficially defeated Jason E. Hogan to become the District 5 county commissioner Tuesday night in a runoff.
With just 4.65% of voters participating, Akins had 836 votes to 480 for Hogan.
Akins is the third District 5 Commissioner since 2019 and is the second in a row to first be elected by special election. Akins will have three years on the board.
