Demorest city manager calls for attorney to resign

As the firing and appointments of police chiefs paired with a recently cancelled meeting with the City of Demorest continues to unfold, City Manager Kim Simonds has requested the voluntary resignation of City Attorney Joey Homans.

Simonds sent a letter to Homans on Thursday. Mayor Rick Austin provided an emailed copy of the letter to The Northeast Georgian.

The letter states that there are “significant concerns” by some council members that Homans should no longer remain the city attorney. “There may be legislation brought before the Council to have you removed from the position but it is hoped that this legislative action, whether occurring soon or later in the year, could be avoided by your resignation,” it reads.

Concerns of Homans’ conduct appear to stem from a disregard of a City Council motion passed on March 3 that the City Manager was to be the point contact for matters concerning Homans’ representation of Demorest.
