Deputies round up rowdy neighbor, respond to domestic call

A Clarkesville man was arrested Monday after allegedly fleeing his home on Roberson Loop Road after a call to 911 from a neighboring residence spurred an investigation by police, according to the Habersham Sheriff’s Office.

Habersham County Sheriff’s PIO Kevin Angell said the incident began when Phillip Charles Hunter, 50, approached his neighbor’s home and knocked repeatedly. After being told to leave, Hunter kicked the door and the neighbor, in fear of his safety, called 911.

Hunter then left the residence and broke the window of his own home just before police arrived. Upon entering the home, officers were confronted by Hunter, who police say was covered in blood, holding what appeared to be an inhaler and threatening to shoot officers.

According to police, officers then retreated and while awaiting reinforcements, Hunter continued to shout from within his home before fleeing from the residence and into a woodline.

Habersham County Sheriff’s Office then pursued the man and deployed aerial drones, a K-9 unit and GSP’s aviation unit in search of the suspect.

Not long after officers learned of the general direction Hunter was thought to be, police say he then stumbled into the street – at which point he was discovered and immediately apprehended by a Demorest police officer.

Hunter was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, bringing contraband across guard lines, two counts of terroristic threats and acts, obstruction and hindering law enforcement officers and two counts of simple assault.

Domestic call

A Clarkesville man was arrested last week after Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies were called to his home on reports that he had a weapon.

Around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night, deputies arrived at Settlers Point Drive to find Richard J. Thiebeault, 34, of Clarkesville holed up in his basement after a domestic incident.

All they knew at the time, Angell said, was that the incident was “violent and involved a firearm.”

Deputies arrived and commanded him to come out of the basement.

Thiebeault was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, obstruction of an officer (two counts), battery-family violence (two counts), simple battery, cruelty to children in third degree, criminal damage to property in second degree, cruelty to children in first degree.
