Habersham County’s Roads and Bridges SPLOST was defeated Tuesday night, with 55 percent of the voters saying no to an additional 1 cent sales tax.

In unofficial final results, Donnie Bennett won the special election for Demorest City Council with 324 out of 502 votes over Jimmy L. Davis.

Brad Coppedge unofficially won the Clarkesville Post 2 open seat with a narrow 325-308 victory over Rick Wood.

In the District 50 Senate race, incumbent Bo Hatchett held a commanding lead with eight out of nine counties reporting.(85 percent to 15) over Paulette Williams.

Both the Sunday Brunch in the county and Sunday alcohol sales in Clarkesville passed.

In the state, MSNBC called the governor's race for incumbent Brian Kemp around 11 p.m. Kemp had almost 54% of the vote against Stacey Abrams with more than 87% of precincts reporting.

The U.S. Senate race between Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker was still too close to call and may be sent into a December runoff if neither can obtain 50%.
