The Complete Count Census Committee held their last meeting Tuesday to discuss how to ensure the maximum number of Habersham Countians are aware of Census Day on April 1.

The committee is still pushing to advertise through as many avenues possible. Another focus has been to make sure there are enough Census workers available.

At a previous meeting they learned the minimum wage for workers was increased to $19 an hour. Census recruiter Ray Nix said they are up to around 70% peak ops now for Census workers. However, for the city of Demorest they are around 40% of the hiring force.

He said the possibility of this low number is because of Piedmont College students that live on campus have to be counted in Habersham County.

County residents should start to see their invitation to respond to the Census with their Census ID to fill out the form online. They will only communicate with you by mail. Residents should not respond to any emails or text messages.

With several operations being cancelled or postponed due to the novel coronavirus, the Census is also taking this into account.  “There are discussions on this as we get closer to people going out into the public, an announcement will be made,” Nix said.
