Every child deserves a childhood filled with joy, safety, and possibility. Every family, no matter where they are or what they are facing, deserves to have someone on their side. This is not only a wish of the Family Resource Center of Northeast Georgia; it is a driving force behind every action of our organization.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. If you’ve looked around this month, you may have noticed blue pinwheels placed throughout our community as a visual demonstration of this focus and the community supporting our children. Blue pinwheels are the national symbol for child abuse prevention, symbolizing hope and the happy, healthy, nurturing childhood every child deserves.
The data behind those pinwheels tells a story we cannot ignore. According to the 2025 Kids Count Data Book, Georgia ranks #39 out of 50 states for overall child and family well-being. In Family and Community, Georgia stands at #42. In Health, #40. Families in our region are under real pressure, and the ripple effects touch every part of our community.
Our mission is to change this trajectory - one family at a time!
Being invested means support before a crisis becomes a catastrophe. Our staff and volunteers provide parent education classes, life skills seminars, and one-on-one mentoring. Our programs include In-Home Visitation, Supervised Family Visitation, Counseling, a Food Pantry, and First Steps. We do not just offer programs; we provide a stable presence.
Being committed means constant support that weaves a safety net strong enough to hold. It’s calling back, following up, supporting families through difficult circumstances and celebrating breakthroughs. Strengthening families is a lifelong investment.
This April The Family Resource Center of Northeast Georgia held the 1st Annual Lip Sync fundraising event at the Rabun County Civic Center. This night of entertainment was a portrait of a community that competes for all the right reasons. Teams from United Community Bank, BSG Coffee, First Baptist Church of Cornelia, Rabun County Teachers, and our Board of Directors took the stage, performing to raise more support for families in need.
First Baptist Church of Cornelia brought the house down with their performance and walked away as the 1st place winner, raising over $7,500. Across all teams, sponsors, and supporters, more than $17,000 was raised for vital family programs. That is not just a fundraising total. That is invested neighbors, and a committed community.
There are constant opportunities to help support our mission. The momentum does not stop aſter April.
