Baldwin Police Chief Jeff Branyon stepped down from his position as head of his department after 11 months on the job, announcing to council his decision to resign at Monday’s regular meeting.
Branyon, the fourth police chief to leave Baldwin’s Police Department since 2019, told council the decision was prompted by a new job opportunity with Truett McConnell University’s Police Academy.
Branyon will be replaced by Lt. Chris Jones, who joined the department alongside Branyon in July when he was named for the chief position after months of uncertainty following the abrupt resignation of former interim police chief Matt Nall along with two other officers – one of whom had cited allegations of a toxic environment and deteriorating relations with city officials in a resignation letter to council members.
